This leaflet was issued hurriedly from the occupation on March 19 and was the first to tell of the charges made against the Ten:
SENATE OCCUPATION: VICTIMISATION BEGINS
This morning the University finally moved against the individuals within the occupation.Ten people were informed that charges had been preferred against them at a meeting of the Advisory Board of Discipline yesterday. These charges will now be referred to the full Board of Discipline.
The ten charged are: John Aspinall, Jon Snow, Richard Davies (Law); Peter Cresswell, Susan Rosinger (Politics); Philip Gusack (Architecture); Ian Williams (English); Andy Black (Philosophy); Danny Fishman (Social Science); Andy Burton (Geology).
The charge is: “That you are guilty of conduct which was detrimental to the discharge of the duties of the University in that on March 9 and succeeding days you occupied the Senate House and excluded the staff of the University with the intention of hampering the discharge of those duties”.
John Aspinall and Peter Cresswell have subsequent and additional charges preferred.
The accused have been asked to appear before the Board of Discipline in the vacation between April 6th- 10th.
THIS IS THE FIRST CLEAR INDICATION THAT THE UNIVERSITY IS PREPARED TO TAKE TEN STUDENTS AND MAKE THEM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF THREE HUNDRED.
IF WE THOUGHT VICTIMISATION WAS NEVER USED, WE KNOW BETTER NOW. THE UNIVERSITY AUTHORITIES ARE PREPARED TO USE THE MOST VICIOUS METHODS TO SUPPRESS ANY FORM OF CRITICISM OF THEIR PRECIoUS UNIVERSITY. THEY ARE PREPARED TO DEFEND THEIR UNIVERSITY AS AN INSTITUTION OF RACISM AND SECRECY AND OF HYPOCRISY.
We call on all students for their support and ask them to attend a meeting in the Senate House at 7.00pm tonight when discipline and victimisation will be discussed.
